Treatment & Recovery

SERAC regularly convenes key partners in the pursuit of a recovery-oriented healthcare system.

The following are characteristics of a recovery-oriented healthcare system:

  • Co-Occurring Capability: The ability to address the co-occurring nature of mental health, problem gambling and substance use disorders.
  • Trauma Informed: Individuals who have experienced trauma and or adverse life experiences are at a higher risk for experiencing a behavioral health disorder.
  • Culturally Responsive: The ability to address health disparities and unique risk factors that are faced by the various subpopulations in our region.
  • Gender Responsive: Recognition that gender impacts the way individuals interact with their environment.
  • Person Centered: Individuals with addiction and/or mental health needs are engaged, supported, and empowered to work on their own behalf and feel included by their communities.
  • Family Involvement: Natural support networks are critical gatekeepers and partners in treatment and recovery.
  • Strength Based: Recognition that successful treatment and recovery are rooted in the process of identifying and building assets across multiple domains.
